Amherstburg is one of the oldest towns in the province of Ontario. It has century old buildings and a beautiful waterfront setting which makes this town a perfect getaway. The town has historic sites, parks, guaint shops, beautiful landscapes and a great view of the water.
Amherstburg also contains 12 area wineries; you can stroll down the vineyards, enjoy the lake breeze and also enjoy some of the areas local produce.
The town of Amherstburg was permanently established as a British Military Fort in 1796. This town is known as the town that freed slaves entering Canada during the days of the Underground Railroad.

Watch ships traveling the waterways along the Lake Erie shoreline and Detroit River, there are soldier re-enactments at Fort Malden's National Historic Site, you can attend some of the cultural events that happen near the shores of Lake Erie, and you can also visit the North American Black Historical Museum.
